DAVID CUNNINGHAM

Source: Unknown newspaper 18 August 1898

Died on Thursday evening last, of cancer, David Cunningham, aged 58 years. He was born in Vermilion County, Illinois near here; was married in 1861 to Miss Pol Current; there were two children born to them, a son and daughter, the son died when 3 years old; the daughter, Miss Dessie, 11 years old with her mother survives the father and husband. A cancer appeared on his face and neck about 3 years ago which the ablest medical care could not cure, and while at Danville under a doctor's care a blood vessel was eaten through and he bled to death last Thursday. His body was brought home on Friday and his funeral was at his palatial home on Sunday at 2 p.m. conducted by Elder A.O. Smartwood, pastor of the Christian Church. After the services his mortal remains were taken to the Lynch cemetery, four miles east of Danville for interment. John McCowan, Marion Powell, Charley Elder, B.F. Bonebrake, Wm. Barger and Marion Elder acted as pall-bearers. David Cunningham united with the Christian Church over two years ago and was baptized by Elder W.G. Smith and since then has been happy in the thought that he was not afraid to die. He was an excellent, good citizen, neighbor and friend, and, was well thought of by everybody.
